FEEDING DREAMS

Imagine what it would be like to have a garden, but not be able to feed your family.

Imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have access to clean water for yourself or your children.

Imagine what it would be like to do your best to raise your young child, but he or she keeps getting sick.

This is the struggle of the people living in a small village in Indonesia. Hidden far away behind several mountains and down many dirt roads, the small village of Oebaki is considered one of the poorest communities in the country. The drought has lasted so long here that the river is dry, and water is scarce. Poverty abounds in Oebaki, and families struggle to feed their children. The children often get sick. Life can hard in Oebaki.

Now imagine the world the way God intends.

God imagines a world where all are fed, everyone has access to clean water and all children grow up healthy. Apostle Paul writes, “Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine…” (Ephesians 3:20, NSRV).

Today your church can provide hope to many of these families. Today’s offering supports One Great Hour of Sharing. Our gifts will allow Church World Service to provide seeds to families, so they can grow cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes and eggplants. Church World Service will also work with families as they improve their farming techniques to make their crops more successful.

Our gifts will provide chickens, quickly blessing families with eggs and many little chicks.

Our gifts will allow Church World Service to provide nutrition educational sessions for mothers of young children, helping the mothers use the vegetables they are growing to provide balanced meals for their children.

Some of the families will have gardens with so much extra food that they can take their bountiful harvest to the local market to sell and raise money.

That’s what happens when we imagine the world as God intends.

Families who were once unable to feed themselves are now able to eat. Parents are now able to work and raise money for their families. And children can go to school and receive an education.

Through your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing what we can imagine becomes ever more a reality for more and more people.
